Catherine Southon's Valuations Road Trip 2026

Catherine Southon's Valuations Road Trip 2026

-

Do you have a jewellery box hidden underneath the bed? A Chinese vase inherited from a distant relative? Or perhaps a drawer full of silver cutlery? Bring them along to one of our events to be appraised by our experts.

Catherine, Emma, and Steve are all General Valuers with different specialist interests. Catherine loves jewellery and watches. Diamonds are always popular, but coloured gemstones are increasingly sought-after. At our recent Chislehurst Valuation Day, Catherine was brought a charming brooch in the form of a turtle. Inset with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and opals, it went on to achieve £1,200 in our November Silver & Jewellery sale.

Emma enjoys discovering decorative arts, from sculpture to Asian Art, porcelain and glass. Her favourite Valuation Day find was a pair of Royal Worcester porcelain painted fruit vases, which sold for £1,200 at auction. The client had inherited them from a deceased relative and was thrilled when they found a loving new home with a collector.

Steve’s favourites are books and paintings. The most important factor in valuing a painting is the artist’s name and the medium. Oil paintings and portraiture tend to command higher prices than landscapes or watercolours. An oil on canvas by Beatrice Gunthrope depicting an elegant lady fetched £1,000 in our October Fine & Decorative Arts sale. Provenance is also important - Steve would love to hear the history behind your piece and how it fell into your hands.

Whether you have jewellery, watches, silver, paintings, porcelain or Asian art, our specialists will be available to assess your hidden treasures and long-held curiosities. We look forward to meeting new faces and hearing the stories behind the objects you bring!
